Any possible negatives

I was wondering this week if there are any large negatives to the expanse of LO oriented design and delivery? I am not sure why, but if something seems to be a great idea, there must be some negatives attached. The one think that I have come up with and am nervous about is whether or not new information will be incorporated as quickly as it should be. The idea is that a LO is swapped for a different LO if / when necessary. However, what if only part of the LO needs to be updated? Is there a decrease in thought and design if it is all there for me to pick and choose. I am still pondering this.

Hi Dan! How are you and the newly-expanded family doing?

Your response about updating LO's is interesting in that we might never be sure to have the current version or one that is academically acceptable. In fact, whose responsibility is it to "approve" of the content in an LO? Perhaps we will eventually see an LO authentification service similar to how digital signatures are authenticated and whatnot.

The more I think about this the more I agree with you. I would imagine that one would "sign-out" an LO such that it could be tagged so that nobody would use it or try to edit it while someone else is performing an upgrade to the LO. I am unsure whether this is actually the case with some systems. However, this might make an interesting short research paper.

Good question!

Dan,
Would it be necessary to swap out the LO or simply add to the database a new and perhaps different LO?

Hi,

I don't think that there can ever be a point where we would have everything all done for us. I think that even if LOs are continually swapped, we must still ultimately be responsible for making sure that we keep-up-to-date with best practices and information. Excellent questions which you brought up!

Dan,

Some great food for thought! I don't know how many times I have found what I thought was a great website or resource only to discover that it's full of dead links or outdated information. The chain of command/responsibility for updating information would have to be clear within the educational repository...but I'm sure there would be problems with getting such a large job continually done.

Not sure about negatives since they would be perfsonla to each, but I think LOs don't reduce the work but can serve as stimulus for new ideas or provide the basis for what you are developing. From my perspective its biggest positive is indicating possible directions.
